2020-03-20 COVID-19 Update


Here are updated numbers and projections for the COVID-19 pandemic.

United States Data πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Here is today's update regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.
  • US Confirmed Cases: 147,838 
  • US Confirmed Deaths: 2,604
  • US Death Rate: 1.76%
The five-day moving average of the doubling period lengthened again to 3.6 days. The US death rate remained flat at 1.76%. The number of new confirmed cases fell below 20,000.

Based on today's number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • 500,000 Cases: April 5 (six days from now)
  • 1,000,000 Cases: April 9 (about ten days from now)
  • 10,000,000 Cases: April 21 (about three weeks from now)

  • Global Confirmed Cases: 756,620
  • Global Confirmed Recovered: 164,103 (22%)
  • Global Confirmed Deaths: 36,181
  • Global Death Rate: 4.8%
The five-day moving average for the global doubling lengthened to 6.4 days. The global death rate continued to increase to 4.8%.

Based on today's cases and the current doubling period, here are the projections for the world if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • 1,000,000 Cases: April 4  (five days from today)
  • 10,000,000 Cases: April 24  (about three and a half weeks from today)
  • 100,000,000 Cases: May 14  (about six weeks away)

These daily updates include data and projections for the state of Georgia because that is where a large number of my family and friends live.
  • Georgia Confirmed Cases: 2,809
  • Georgia Cases Currently Hospitalized: 707 (25%)
  • Georgia Confirmed Deaths: 87
  • Georgia Death Rate: 3.1%
The five-day moving average of the doubling period for Georgia lengthened again to 5.4 days. Based on today's number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • 10,000 Cases: April 9 (about a week from now)
  • 100,000 Cases: April 26 (four weeks from now)
  • 1,000,000 Cases: May 16 (about seven weeks from now)
