2020-04-10 COVID-19 Update

Here is today's update regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.
  • US Confirmed Cases: 476,333
  • US Confirmed Deaths: 17,832 (New Deaths: 2,550)
  • US Death Rate: 3.7%
Bad News: The overall US death rate rose again to 3.7%. Both the number of new daily deaths and the number of new daily confirmed cases were record highs. Good News: The five-day moving average of the cumulative case doubling period lengthened again to 8.8 days.

Based on today's number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 18 – 952,666 cases
  • April 27 – 1.9 million cases
  • May 6 – 3.8 million cases
  • May 15 – 7.6 million cases
The five-day moving average of the doubling period for deaths in the United States has remained constant at 5.1 days. Based on today's cumulative number of confirmed deaths and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 15 – 36,000 deaths
  • April 20 – 71,000 deaths
  • April 25 – 143,000 deaths
  • April 30 – 285,000 deaths

Bad News: The global death rate rose again to 6.1%. Global confirmed deaths exceeded 100,000 people today. Good News: The five-day moving average for the global doubling period lengthened again to 12.6 days.
