2020-04-06 COVID-19 Update

Here are updated numbers and projections for the COVID-19 pandemic.

United States Data πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Here is today's update regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.
  • US Confirmed Cases: 341,410
  • US Confirmed Deaths: 9,974
  • US Death Rate: 2.9%
Bad News: The overall US death rate rose again to 2.9%. Good News: Both the number of new confirmed cases and new confirmed deaths dropped compared to yesterday. The number of new confirmed daily deaths dropped below 1,000 for the first time in six days. The five-day moving average of the cumulative case doubling period lengthened again to 6.7 days. This is an early indication that the curve may be starting to flatten out.

Based on today's number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 12 – 682,819 cases
  • April 19 – 1.4 million cases
  • April 26 – 2.7 million cases
  • May 2 – 5.5 million cases
The five-day moving average of the doubling period for deaths in the United States has lengthened to 4.3 days. Based on today's cumulative number of confirmed deaths and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 10 – 19,947 deaths
  • April 14 – 39,894 deaths
  • April 18 – 79,788 deaths
  • April 23 – 159,576 deaths

  • Global Confirmed Recovered: 119,918
  • Global Confirmed Deaths: 70,657
  • Global Death Rate: 5.5%
Good News: The global death rate remained stable at 5.5%. The five-day moving average for the global doubling period lengthened again to 10.3 days.

Based on today's cases and the current doubling period, here are the projections for the world if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 16 – 2.6 million cases
  • April 26 – 5.2 million cases
  • May 6 – 10.3 million cases
  • May 17 – 20.7 million cases

  • Georgia Confirmed Cases: 7,314
  • Georgia Cases Currently Hospitalized: 1,332 (18.2%)
  • Georgia Confirmed Deaths: 229
  • Georgia Death Rate: 3.1%
Bad News: The Georgia death rate remains higher than the national average. The number of new confirmed cases has increased for two days in a row. Good News: The overall death rate in Georgia decreased to 3.1%. The five-day moving average of the doubling period for Georgia lengthened again to 8.1 days.

Based on today's number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today's projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:
  • April 14 – 14,628 cases
  • April 22 – 29,256 cases
  • April 30 – 58,512 cases
  • May 8 – 117,024 cases
